Jameson Cooper's Croze
When you have a skill that’s been passed down through five generations of your family, you deserve a tribute that can be enjoyed by the next five. The Cooper’s Croze - part of the Whiskey Makers Series - is an Irish Whiskey that celebrates the craft of Head Cooper, Ger Buckley. It honors His mastery at selecting, repairing and maintaining the treasured casks at our Midleton Distillery and the tools he uses to do so.
"I wanted to craft a whiskey that shows the versatility of wood and the flavors it creates, from sweet vanilla to rich fruits and toasted wood. The Croze is a tool I use to cut grooves into which the heads of the casks are fitted" - Ger
A subtle flower petal-perfume develops into rich ripe fruits, while some charred oak and cedar wood bring balance and complexity – a seamless infusion of American and Spanish oak character.
The initial impression is from the sweet vanilla of the American ex-bourbon barrels. This brings added depth to the rich fruits typical of the ex-oloroso sherry butts. A pleasant touch of hazelnut and toasted wood complement the pot still spices.
Pleasantly long, with vanilla sweetness slowly fading to barley grains with a touch of oak char.
This new blended Irish whiskey is intended to showcase flavors imparted by the barrel. (A cooper makes barrels; a croze is a tool used to cut grooves in the barrel.) Look for a bright, fresh scent layered with fresh pear and sweet vanilla, which is echoed on the palate. Adding water coaxes out more vanilla, crème brûlée and baking spice. A real sipper, this whiskey warms all the way down.
